This article is about a mail order bride business that sells women who are "unspoiled by feminism." The quality of each bride is pretty much based on her looks, cooking and cleaning abilities, and her submissiveness. Feminism in this article seems to be defined as being aware of one's rights. It was disturbing to read some of the mens' comments at the bottom of this article pretty much discuss buying a bride as if they are looking to buy a pet.
This is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredibly disturbing, not at all surprising. Nicholas Kristov, a writer for the New York Times, recently wrote an article about the sex trafficking and slavery industries in China Town (NY). We often do not conceptualize that the brutal treatment of women and children is very much alive today. Not only is the whole idea of purchasing a human being the fundamental demise of all civilization, but marketing someone as "unsoiled" in regards to Feminism is certainly a first, for me
